White snow & red lipstick

I look out one of our windows and all I see is white… snow for days and days! This winter in New York and the Northeast of America has set new records when it comes to snowfall.

It really is something to get around in, trying to look fabulous for jobs and castings alike. You look gorgeous from head to under the knee then you see a pair of Sorel boots or rain boots of varying colours and brands keeping feet warm and dry. This is New York when it snows and when the white cover melts… Yuk! It is messy, wet and grey.

I went to a casting today and 90% of the girls had the above shoes/boots on. I smiled. Only in New York would this fly with such a practical edge.

When it’s freezing, wet and drab like this, a good red lipstick goes a long way for me personally. One of my favourites is by Chanel - Rouge Allure in Audace. It’s a good investment if you love to wear red lipstick.

At the end of the month, I’ll be returning to Australia for the next Sara shoot. We’ll be getting ready for Winter 2011. Are you ready for winter or simply enjoying your summer?

I look forward to summer. I look forward to spring too with long walks outside with my babies and husband. Life is good when you can be outside in the elements, running wild and breathing in the life of your surrounds.

Have a great month.

Be well.

Delights of warmer weather

Divine spring-like weather has finally reached us here in New York. What a pleasure it is to walk down the street without the need for coats, scarves, hats, gloves and boots. Yeah!

Everyone has a ‘spring’ in their step and you can see how a mild sunny day can change a person after such a long and cold winter… enough already!

We are starting to take our new babe out of the apartment ever so slowly. The weather has been the main factor for keeping Levi indoors, out of the cold and away from crowds where people could be sick with the flu. These are things we think about here in New York.

The parks are filled with children’s voices again and parents/nannies sitting around on benches sipping coffees and chatting (usually about the weather at this point). Argh… the delights of warmer weather.

Hope the weather is how you like it to be… wherever you are in the world!

Have a fabulous week.

Be well.

As usual, I have some favourite pieces to bring to your attention -

Happenings

Hello everyone!

Since my last post the weather here in New York has dropped considerably... scarves and coats are a must (all in a matter of two weeks). It is autumn or fall as the Americans like to call it and it's a beautiful time of year. September and October are two of my favourite months in the Big Apple and the autumn foliage is hard to beat. You certainly know and feel the four seasons in New York. I love that.

Boots are everywhere in every heel height, shape and colour. Even though I have many pairs, I still feel the guilty pleasure of buying a new boot for the season. Comfort is everything too, since walking around the streets of Manhattan is an everyday part of my life and a necessity that I really enjoy. There is no place like it.

Today is Halloween and it's a big deal in the States. My husband, daughter and I are going to a friend's place for the weekend in New Jersey to mark this international holiday that's celebrated on October 31. I'm still trying to decide what to wear to a party where there will be 100 or so guests celebrating this secular holiday. It is Mila's first Halloween and I can't wait to see her expression when she sees all these weird and wonderful costumes. I hope she doesn't cry and freak out!

My mother came to stay with us for two months recently and returned to Australia two weeks ago (sob sob sob). We all miss her very much, including all our New York friends who couldn't wait to pop over for a taste of my mother's famous and very delicious biscuits for afternoon tea/coffee. Every weekend we had friends over, entertaining and loving my mum's time with us. Every day was a precious gift to have mum stay and be an important part of Mila's first year of life. Mum took care of our daughter whilst my husband and I were at work (no one like mum). My husband asked mum to move in with us and she replied with a big smile on her face, "No thank you my darling, Sydney is the best place for me. No place beats Sydney." There's nothing like having a wonderful family around. It certainly is the biggest trade off that my husband and I make by living in New York.

I've been working and traveling around the States a lot and even had my first overnight and two day/night trip away from my daughter this past month. I'm still nursing so it's crucial that I'm not away from Mila for too long. I have become an expert in expressing and I'm enjoying the balance of family/career. It's certainly more work however, I love it when I'm at home busy being mum and then on set as a fashion model and salesperson for a label/designer. One day I am pampering, the next, I am being pampered!

Be well.
